There are two types of equipments in the MetroEdge-Express family, the CPE device (hereafter: DHODT-LM and LM/FIT) and the aggregation device at the central office (hereafter: DHODT-LMX or LMX). Based on SDH/MSPP technology, DHODT-LMX/LM SDH/MSPP access device aims at providing both TDM based traditional telecom services and ever growing IP based data services.

There are several types of CPE equipments in the family including the basic type DHODT-LM and a more flexible type DHODT-LM/FIT. The LM is designed for point-to-point application, while LM/FIT operates in ADM mode for more complicated topologies such as ring and chain networks. The multi-slot aggregate equipment DHODT-LMX can hold up to 16 tributary cards (LIU's) and up to 2 uplink network interface cards (NIU's). By selecting appropriate LIU's, the tributary slots can provide different interfaces to meet real application requirements.
